Criminal Lawyer discusses red light tickets and camera tickets
Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman. My name is Mark Rollins. I’m a criminal lawyer here in D. C. And today we’re discussing these camera tickets. The reason why I’m discussing these camera tickets is because the phone calls are driving me crazy. I’m just kidding. But, we … you find that the camera tickets you receive in the District of Columbia, everyone seems to get them, and they always ask, how do I defend them?
The first option is that you typically do not want to hire an attorney to fight a camera ticket. One, it’s not cost effective to fight a camera ticket with an attorney. But two, on the back of the ticket, you’re going to look on … you’re going to flip the ticket over and look at the back of it. It tells you 3 things you can do. You can either admit, send a payment in, or you can request a mail … a hearing by mail, or 3, you can walk in and have a hearing. What we recommend is that you probably submit … if you didn’t do it, recommend you fighting the ticket by mail. Most people are out of state when they get these tickets, they get them in the mail and then they don’t know what to do with them. So, what we’re … what we tell you to do is simply fight them. But you don’t need an attorney to fight these camera tickets, as well as red light tickets. You don’t really need an attorney to fight those, because the cost is not effective for you or me to fight those tickets.
So, I hope this helps, and I know a lot of people get them, and I know we get a lot of questions regarding what to do with my camera ticket, but look on the back of the ticket, flip it over, follow the directions, and it pretty much tells you. Last thing is that, I know a lot of people are scared of the points. Typically in D. C., unless the law’s changed recently … I don’t think it has … there’s no points associated with camera tickets. And I would always recommend fighting them because of the fact that cameras can be wrong, and equipment can be wrong, and you need to make sure it was calibrated and things like that. But you can fight that by the mail. You don’t need an attorney to come in there and fight that for you. You can feel free to call us, and we’ll talk about it some more, but you’re going to get the same answer I’m giving you today. Feel free to subscribe to our channel, and thanks for watching.
